Rare Danish highboard by Ærthøj-Jensen, Denmark 1960’s
Vintage 1960s Scandinavian teak sideboard “Smilla” by designer Ærthøj Jensen.
This exceptionally beautiful mid-century high sideboard, crafted in Denmark by Ærthøj Jensen & Mølholm Møbelfabrik around 1960, exemplifies timeless elegance. Made from exquisite teak, the piece features a sleek rectangular top above four sliding doors with incised handles. The central doors reveal a mirrored drinks cabinet, complete with a period-typical etched pattern and a narrow glass shelf above a black-painted wooden shelf. Beneath, you'll find three pull-out drawers lined with green baize. Flanking the central section, there are cabinets with two adjustable and removable shelves, allowing for versatile storage options. The highboard stands gracefully on four cylindrical tapering sculpted legs, joined by a Brazilian Rosewood shaped stretcher for added stability and elegance.
The cabinet features hidden lighting that automatically illuminates when the sliding door is opened.
A classic Scandinavian minimalist piece with strong investment value to suit any setting. Here is a piece that exemplifies the valued Danish design, high cabinetwork that presents a structure in teak wood, with finishes that perfectly balance aesthetics and functionality. It captivates with its brilliant simplicity, adorned only with the organic grain of natural wood and the sculpted contours of its beautiful handles.
A testament to superb craftsmanship from the golden era of Danish mid-century modern furniture design, this sideboard stands as a timeless classic.
