Four dovetailed drawers in the front, unlike the other we have and have seen in the past, this one isn’t double-sided with a bookshelf at the back, making it more unique.

It is beautifully crafted and designed, an absolutely exquisite piece. The wood grain and colour are beautifully active in light.
Condition: Very good overall condition for its age. It has been refurbished and refinished, small wood chips on the back have been filled and sealed.

This collectible solid Imbuia wood desk is beautifully crafted and designed, an exquisite heirloom piece. The wood grain and colour are beautifully active in light.
Meyer was the South African master of understated midcentury elegance, with sober and clean designs. The majority of Meyer's furniture was made in the beautiful hardwood imbuia, also known as Brazilian walnut, because of a resemblance to some walnuts.
The Binnehuis furniture stores were located in Cape Town and Somerset-West, and were owned by a Dutch businessman and his wife, Mr and Mrs van Ewijck, who moved between South Africa and the Netherlands. It seems they were most prolific during the 1960s.
As much as we love Scandinavian furniture, some of our mid-century South African pieces are just as beautiful, this one being a great example.
Imbuia is not listed in the CITES Appendices, but is classified as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
