Jentique Furniture, a prominent British furniture manufacturer, gained acclaim for producing sought-after collections of Scandinavian-inspired furniture in the mid-20th century.
Founded in the 1930s by Geoffrey Bowman Jenkins, a renowned toymaker, and his wife Edith, the company was headquartered in Dereham, Norfolk. Unfortunately, Jenkins lost control of the business to his partner Bernard Smart (famous for creating Metamec clocks) in 1936.
Along with similar cabinetmakers, the design of Jentique furniture followed the tastes of the times and the company did particularly well during the 1950s and 1960s, tapping into the hugely popular mid-century modern style inspired by Danish design. Today, Jentique furniture from the retro mid-century period is highly prized for its graceful proportions, appealing design, and exceptional craftsmanship.
Like many Mid-Century pieces, it harmoniously combines sturdy solid wood with a top-grade wood veneer.
