    Ercol

In the late 1800s, Lucian Ercolani, at the age of ten, relocated with his family from Tuscany to London. His educational journey began with Salvation Army schools, leading him to pursue further studies at a night college in Shoreditch, where he immersed himself in the furniture-making trade. Ercolani's apprenticeship paved the way for employment with Frederick Parker, a seminal figure in British furniture making and the founder of Parker Knoll, a leading furniture enterprise of the time.

By 1920, Ercolani had established his own company, Ercol, where he served as the principal designer. His work, known for its gentle, sculptural curves and ground-breaking use of bentwood, has stood the test of time as iconic furniture designs. Lucian’s contributions to British design and manufacturing earned him an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1964.

After his death, Lucian's enduring impact on design was further recognized in 2010 when he was posthumously honored with the distinguished Design Guild Mark. Ercolani helped popularise the break from the heavy, ornate pre-war styles towards a new clean lined, simple elegance.
