Antique Georgian Writing Bureau Desk in solid Oak and Mahogany, circa 1780 – 1800
It has a green leather inlaid drop-front writing surface enclosing original fitted interior of eight pigeon holes, four slim stationery drawers and a central compartment which is constructed of mahogany is decorated with classical satinwood Georgian inlay, plus various cleverly hidden extra little drawers. The central compartment boasts a secret pull-out drawer in the bottom, above pigeon-hole slots, are a further 2 secret drawers, disguised as decorative trim, constructed from mahogany. The fall is supported by the original two pull-out slides, with the original small brass handles. Below the fall is a bank of four graduated drawers, decorated with mahogany cross-banding. The drawers are oak lined, hand dovetailed and feature the majority of original brass plate handle escutcheons. Raised on shaped bracket feet front and rear with original hidden castors.
Decorated with satinwood inlay, displaying a lovely rich colour and patination. The bureau is constructed from solid oak frame, with an oak & mahogany cross-banded moulded fall.

Overall good condition for a 200+ year old antique, we prefer to keep it in its original condition as it shows the authenticity and character of this well-preserved item. It doesn’t diminish the overall integrity of the piece. Unrestored. Please see photos for details. The leather inlay shows age-related wear, two of the original brass handle pulls that broke off were professionally repaired, the small door of the inner compartment has no handle. It has been meticulously cleaned and polished in our workshop.
This classic Georgian bureau offers plenty of storage and purpose for modern living, would certainly grace any home and is an excellent investment which has stood the test of time. All in all a lovely period piece
