R0,00Price
  • Collectable 1960’s extendable round dining table in imbuia designed by EE Meyer for Binnehuis. The table extends from a 4 (round) to a 6 (oval) seater. Perfect for gatherings.

The table showcases elegant tapered legs and a beautiful wood grain that highlights the quality and attention to detail typical of EE Meyer’s renowned craftsmanship.

Overall very good vintage condition. It has been gently refurbished and refinished.

Please note that, as is common with vintage extendable dining tables, there is a slight color variation between the center extension piece and the two outer leaves. This difference typically occurs because the centerpiece is rarely used.

    Dimensions:  121.5 cm diameter extends to 167.5 cm x 75 cm (h)

The set of Binnehuis dining chairs that complement this table are sold separately here.

A true treasure that encapsulates the essence of South Africa's most sought-after mid-century furniture manufacturer. With a legacy rooted in timeless craftsmanship and iconic design, EE Meyer creations have become highly sought after. Owning an EE Meyer piece means not only acquiring a beautiful work of art but also preserving a valuable piece of South African design history.

Meyer was the South African master of understated midcentury elegance, defined by sober and clean designs. The majority of Meyer's furniture was made in beautiful hardwood imbuia.

The Binnehuis furniture stores were located in Cape Town, Stellenbosch Somerset-West, Newlands, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg and were owned by a Dutch businessman and his wife, Mr and Mrs van Ewijck, who moved between South Africa and the Netherlands. It seems they were most prolific during the 1960s

Imbuia is not listed in the CITES Appendices, but is classified as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Like many Mid-Century pieces, it harmoniously combines sturdy solid wood with a top-grade wood veneer.
